Town Square Antique Mall, Slaton, Tx
The Town Square Antique Mall is a solid gem in the attractions of Slaton, Texas. It is located on the south side of the historic town square, in a building owned by the city that also houses the city museum. As you walk through the front door, you are greeted by a reception/checkout counter. Going to the right, one finds the museum comprised of two long aisles of displays stretching almost to the back of the building, with additional displays in the far front area and the far rear area.
Turning to the left, one finds the Antique mall with almost the same layout, having two long aisles of stalls stretching almost to the back of the building, with additional stalls at the very front band back.
There are 30 stalls, some consisting of two or even three standard spaces, though one of these at the rear is really more of an exit to the back of the building, and another one is currently not in use.
The magic is that each of the stalls is rented by individuals with individual tastes creating a wide diversity of antique items, from books to furniture, graphics to porcelains and many kitchen wears including plates, dolls, tools clothing, and more. There are musical instruments, quilts, lamps, purses, shoes, and the list goes on.
The Antique Mall is a good reason in and of itself to visit Slaton, but being on the town square makes it even more fun. There are other unique shops around and one can enjoy pastries at the historic Slaton Bakery, or German food at the Texas 1801 Restaurant, making it an excellent afternoon excursion.
