The Slaton Museum is made up of several organized displays depicting life in the early 20th century plus, scattered about, several individual relics mostly dating to the same period. It’s all part of Slaton’s wonderful history.
There are displays of a kitchen with old stoves and washing machines and also a bedroom including a bed and wedding dress. There are also displays of farm equipment. There is also a display of high school items including a rack of old school photos.
Other group displays include an interesting pharmacology and medical display, many different types of military and other uniforms, and, of course, a display of train-related artifacts with several Santa Fe Railway items and even including the dress that a woman wore upon her arrival in Slaton.
Other individual displays include an early printing press, radios, telephone switchers, an old jail cell, a church organ, and even part of an old post office. There are also displays of a business nature including an old brass cash register. One very rare item in the Slaton Museum is a woven wicker coffin that is said to have been used more than once
