Recreation and Fun

Slatonites do have a lot of fun, mostly with sports, food, and events and of course, there are three main parks with various recreational facilities including baseball parks, basketball courts, and a public swimming pool, and the Slaton Speedway is fun for young and old.  Depending on the time of year, events such as Christmas on the Square or Oktoberfest at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church can be extraordinary.

However, many of the fun things to do for people coming into town are not really on this page. For example, visiting museums such as the Harvey House and the Texas Air Museum and visiting the many historical landmarks around Slaton, or shopping on the Town Square. And then there is food and Slaton knows how to do food, from tender barbeque to the only German food in West Texas to a Bakery that’s one of the oldest in Texas.

It’s even fun to explore the old streets of Slaton and observe the houses dating back as far as the city itself, or those built in the 1930s and many dating to the end of the Second World War along West Garza Street.

Of course, for those visiting this area or moving to Slaton, it’s also very close to recreation and fun in Lubbock, Texas, particularly places like the Art and Depot Districts.
