Food & Restaurants
Slatonites love their food and restaurants and there always seems to be some sort of festive occasion where good food is being served, from the Octoberfest at the St Joseph Catholic Church to a pancake breakfast at the Harvey House.
The recent pandemic shut down several restaurants, but those that remain do so for a very good reason. There are none of them where you can go wrong. For example, the Texas 1809 Restaurant on the town square is not only the exclusive German restaurant in this part of the country, but their food is also original and excellent.
Then there is the historic Slaton Bakery, also on the town square, which has been operating here almost as long as the city’s foundation, and JJ’s Cafe, a dinner serving true comfort food that is over 20 years old.
Furthermore, in a part of Texas known for its fine barbeque, Pitforks and Smokerings BBQ is heads above most anywhere in West Texas.
And don’t forget Casa De Miguel Mexican Food. Once again, it’s traditional and flavorful in all the right ways.
