The Texas Air Museum is entirely volunteer run by a group of devoted people who restore, preserve and share the history of military aviation. They also fly and maintain the museum’s airworthy exhibits. Members who have paid a fee can begin to sponsor aircraft and become museum pilots
Here, one finds both functioning aircraft and nonfunction but still very interesting aircraft. And considering that it is rarely overwhelmed with visitors, it’s a nice place to stroll about with the kids and has a good close look at these war birds.
In addition, several areas contain additional displays from model aircraft to bombs and uniforms.
They also frequently sponsor fly-ins for area pilots.

First Completed Boilerplate Model of the Apollo Command Module
On August 7, 1962, the first completed boilerplate model of the Apollo command module (BP-25) was delivered to Marshall Space Center for water recovery and handling equipment tests. The boilerplate was used for impact, flotation, water stability, and towing tests during the development of the command module design. A boilerplate is a metal mockup of the same weight and size as a flight production model. By using an unmanned boilerplate, the design can be evaluated without endangering human life or incurring excessive expenses on detailed models.
