About Slaton Tour
The Slaton Tour website is a photographic tour of Slaton, Texas, and has two goals. One is to attract people from nearby towns such as Lubbock and others traveling along South US 84 to visit the city, grab something to eat, shop, and perhaps even spend the night. I even hope some might be enticed to move to Slaton. The other goal is to showcase my photography as a professional photographer and my ability to build complex websites. I love photography so much that it’s also my hobby, and I work on the Slaton Tour website in between other photography shoots.
Slaton is a historic town with more than a few attractions. Many people perhaps do not know about the great air museum, the historic Harvey House, or the well-stocked antique mall among many other places to visit. It has a rich history as a train town and those who might be interested in trains should come and take a look. It’s also the only place in this part of Texas where one can dine on authentic German food, and some of the best barbeques anywhere. There also seems to be an endless number of events and entertainment. And with the number of people moving into this area, for many, Slaton may make more sense than Lubbock. It’s smaller, a little more quaint, and yet, has most of the amenities one finds in larger cities. And of course, if there is something one cannot find, Lubbock is only twelve miles away. Perhaps most of all, and one of the reasons I became involved in this project, the people are warm and friendly. They know each other, and they care about their neighbors.
I started out doing a project involving taking photos of historic homes in Lubbock. When I ran out of those, I decided to photograph the historic landmarks in nearby Slaton, beginning with the Harvey House. I found the people to be so inviting, friendly and cooperative that I decided to photograph more of Slaton. In doing so, I’ve worked with architectural photography, portraits, events, commercial photography, and product photography. I had done very complex websites in the past, including building the first website for the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, so I also decided to put all this work together in a website that could showcase my photography, as well as my ability to build large websites. It’s been a very large project, but a fun and rewarding one too. My photography business is located in Lubbock, Texas: https://www.earthairphoto.com
